The different types of printers

Printers can be highly convenient tools. Whether you need some office work done or want to help your child finish their school project, a printer makes your job easier and quicker. Though it has been a long time since the invention of printers, they continue to play a very important role in our life.

If you are considering purchasing a printer for your workplace or for your home, you need to know the different types of printers that are available in the market today. Depending upon the purpose of your purchase, budget, and the features you are looking for, you can make a decision as to which of the options are best for you.

Let’s look at the different types of printers available in the market today:

Inkjet printers
Inkjet printers create images and text by squirting liquid ink through small holes through a print head. Known for their color blending characteristic, inkjet printers offer great photo quality. This is one of the printers that lets you print on various materials and surfaces, which includes canvas, and flex banners for large sized images. Inkjet printers offer versatility and great quality, but lag in speed. However, they are generally built to offer high speed. But the models for home may not offer as much speed. It is recommended to opt for models with separate cartridge for the ink.

LED and Laser printers
LED and laser printers are printers that are typically used at the workplace. These printers are usually found to be quicker at printing than inkjet printers. Although LED and laser printers are found to be more expensive than inkjet printers, these are equipped to generate larger quantities of prints, and the price of the toner is also reasonable.

Color LED printers
Color LED printers come with four drums and four toner colors. These printers are heavier and much bigger than the typical monochrome LED and laser printers. The best thing about color LED and laser printers is that you only need to replace four cartridges for these printers.

Solid-ink printers
Solid-ink printers use ink made out of melted wax-like blocks. It then squirts the ink through the holes of a print-head on paper. This variety offers print quality as good as that of LED and laser printers. Solid-ink printers are quicker than inkjet printers. They are less complex to work with than color LED and laser printers.

Snapshot printers
Snapshot printers are meant for generating good quality, photographic prints. However, for using snapshot printers, you will require a special type of paper and a dye sublimation technique. With snapshot printers, you can only manage to generate print outs that are about 4-by-6 inches.

A3 printers
A3 printers are meant for generating print outs for paper sizes that do not fit on your typical laser or inkjet printer. Instead of going to a specialized vendor or shop for getting large-scale print out projects done, you can opt for A3 printers for the same purpose.
